8.2.4 Employment policy modern slavery

    Providence University, in accordance with the Labor Standards Act and relevant government regulations, has established clear and enforceable policies regarding working hours and overtime for technical and administrative staff to ensure the protection of their labor rights and prevent overwork. The university strictly adheres to legal standards for working conditions and does not permit forced overtime or any form of modern slavery.
    All faculty and staff appointments at Providence University are conducted in full compliance with the laws of Taiwan. The university does not employ illegal workers or child labor under any circumstances. In accordance with Article 45, Paragraph 1 of the Labor Standards Act, employers are prohibited from hiring individuals under the age of fifteen. Furthermore, as stipulated in Article 3 of the university’s Staff Appointment Regulations, all appointed personnel must be at least twenty years old and possess a junior college degree or higher, ensuring that all employees meet the legal and professional qualifications required for their roles.
Providence University is committed to maintaining a lawful, safe, and respectful working environment, upholding the employment rights, fair compensation, and human dignity of all staff members, and actively promoting labor justice and social responsibility across campus.

According to Providence University's revised Administrative Guidelines for Technical and Staff Employees dated May 28, 2024:

  1. In compliance with Article 18 of the Act of Gender Equality in Employment, PU provides breastfeeding time for employees with children under the age of one. In addition to the legally mandated rest periods, employers must grant two breastfeeding breaks per day, each lasting 30 minutes. These breastfeeding breaks are considered part of the employee’s paid working hours.
  2. Technical and administrative staff work five days per week, eight hours per day, totaling 40 working hours per week. Employees are entitled to two days off per week. Flexible scheduling is permitted to accommodate operational needs.
  3. For units with special operational requirements, working hours may be adjusted upon approval by the President and submission to the Office of Human Resources. The principles for flexible adjustments are as follows:
    (1) Within a four-week period, regular working hours may be redistributed to other workdays, with no more than two additional hours per day.
    (2) On days when regular working hours reach 10 hours, extended working hours must not exceed two additional hours.
    (3) Within a two-week period, employees must be granted at least two days off as regular rest days.

According to Regulations Governing Compensatory Leave and Overtime Pay for Technical and Administrative Staff at Providence University

Due to temporary operational needs or the handling of unexpected events that cannot be completed during regular working hours, employees may be required to work overtime beyond office hours. From Monday to Friday, the maximum allowable overtime per person is four hours per day. On weekends and public holidays, the limit is nine hours per day. The total monthly overtime shall not exceed thirty hours per person. However, for positions with special job requirements, exceptions may be granted upon approval by the university president. In all cases, overtime regulations must remain within the limits prescribed by the Labor Standards Act.
