Providence University prioritizes the right of way for all faculty, staff, and students walking on campus. We have clearly designated vehicle routes and planned pedestrian-only paths throughout the campus. Additionally, we have established various regulations and measures to ensure the right of way and walking safety for pedestrians on campus. These measures include the following:
- Pedestrian-priority trail: To ensure pedestrian safety, we have designated pedestrian-only areas and crosswalks on roads within the campus, providing safe and priority walking zones for pedestrians.
- Vehicle-free central axis: The central axis of the campus is closed to vehicles, prioritizing pedestrian access.
- Regular maintenance and expansion: In addition to regular maintenance of pedestrian paths, we increase the number of paths for pedestrians as needed.
- Speed bumps: Speed bumps are installed on roads to reduce vehicle speeds within the campus.
- Traffic regulations: Vehicles on campus must adhere to university regulations, including a speed limit of 30 km/h. Driving against traffic, speeding, and honking are strictly prohibited to ensure pedestrian safety.
- Campus Safety Committee: We have established a "Campus Safety Committee" to oversee and review various campus safety issues, and an "Emergency Reporting and Response Team" to address any campus emergencies through a comprehensive campus safety reporting mechanism.
