Providence University is committed to fulfilling its social responsibility by providing educational opportunities for students with disabilities. We maintain safeguarded quotas for such students across various admission channels. Our admission brochures adhere to the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and are subject to scrutiny and approval by the university's admission committee and special education committee, ensuring that the educational rights and interests of students with disabilities are protected.
Upon enrollment, we prioritize the quality of education for students with disabilities. To achieve this, we have established the "Regulations for the Establishment of the Special Education Implementation Committee", dedicated to coordinating and advancing special education initiatives to support the learning rights of students with disabilities. The committee ensures the implementation of individualized support services, develops and executes individualized support plans, and provides transportation subsidies to reduce the financial burden of schooling. In addition, it is responsible for coordinating and integrating the university’s special education resources to ensure their effective allocation and utilization. To create a friendly and inclusive learning environment, the committee continuously supervises and promotes improvements in campus accessibility. Through these measures, the committee aims to build a comprehensive support system that enables students with disabilities to fully develop their potential and achieve holistic growth.
In addition, PU provides special education counseling and support services for students with disabilities. These services include academic tutoring, learning and life assistants, psychological and life counseling activities, special education consultation, and more.
Learning Assist facilities for people with disabilities
To support the learning of students with disabilities, PU completed the construction of an accessible campus environment in 2018 in accordance with legal requirements to ensure the educational rights of these students. Subsequently, various improvements have been made using self-allocated funds based on the specific needs of students.
Currently, PU has established two dedicated resource classrooms for students with disabilities, equipped with devices such as speech-enabled computers, Braille displays, magnification software, high-speed scanners, photocopiers, and printers to facilitate their learning.
In the 2024 academic year, a total of 14 assistive devices for visually impaired students and 8 for physically disabled students were provided.
